Adult Christmas humour at Coventry’s Belgrade

ADULT humour with a Christmassy theme is taking the stage at the Belgrade Theatre until the end of this week.

New musical comedy Crackers, written by Royal Shakespeare Company actor Forbes Masson, is set in Archibald Myrrh’s cut-price Christmas shop, Myrrh’s Bizarre Bazaar.

The show follows the story of the hapless young Leonard, who finds himself trapped behind the checkout and longs to escape, find true love and live his dreams.

But his boss, the evil entrepreneur Archibald Myrrh, has other abominable plans.

Following an appeal by the Belgrade, which has an environmental policy that requires it to re-use and recycle where possible, Myrrh’s Bizarre Bazaar has been stocked with the help of people in the area, who donated empty tins, cleaning product containers, food packaging and old Christmas decorations.

Masson is well-known for his humorous writing style and innovative, cartoon-like characters, such as those he created for BBC sitcom The High Life with stage and screen actor Alan Cumming.

Crackers is on until Friday, December 23. For tickets, priced from £8.25 to £14.50, call 024 7655 3055 or go online where cheaper tickets are available.
