Art therapy project is launched in Leamington’s Old Town

Leamington artists are using their skills to offer support to those with mental health problems.

Recyclart is a new project set up by artist Toni Peach in which participants are encouraged to use recycled materials - such as card, wood and glass - to create paper sculptures, collages, photography, jewellery and other artworks.

Art therapist Jane Scheuer is working alongside the artists to run mixed media workshops - the first of which takes place at Age UK in Clemens Street tomorrow (Tuesday) from 1.30pm.

Toni said: “Art can be a very relaxing creative outlet for stress, depression and anxiety.

“We hope to set up a self-help network of artists, volunteers, and participants to carry on these workshops.

“As local authorities continue to make cuts, we feel that this is a great chance for people to discover their creative potential and meet like-minded people.”

As well as items usually destined for the recycling box, the artists would like to incorporate other unused materials such as buttons, beads, magazines, books, fabrics and old picture frames.
