Blues rocker Beth brings her energy to Leamington

BLUES and rock is an old combination that is being given a new look by the next generation of musicians.

Whereas the likes of the Rolling Stones, John Mayall and Cream fused the two genres in the 60s, the new wave is being spearheaded by the likes of Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart - who is coming to Leamington this month.

In true Blues fashion, Beth Hart has seen high highs and low lows, which have all been poured into her platinum-selling albums.

Speaking to the Courier she said: “I haven’t played in Leamington before. This will be my first time and I’m looking forward to playing the Assembly, I hear it is a beautiful venue.

“People can look forward to energy, lots of energy and personal stories. I put my heart and soul into every gig - so much that I need to rest my voice as otherwise I won’t be able to sing for a day or two and sometimes lose it.”

In her latest album, Don’t Explain, the American rocker has teamed up with the blues/ rock machine that is Joe Bonamassa for a new soulful take on some classics such as Etta James’s I’d Rather Go Blind, Aretha Franklin’s Ain’t No Way, and the Ray Charles and B.B. King tune Sinner’s Prayer.

Of the album, she said that working with Bonamassa had been the most exciting part.

“He’s such a talented musician and his guitar playing is unbelievable,” she explained. “I haven’t seen anyone who’s better.

“Joe has become a good friend and I respect him a lot, he was easy as sliced pie to work with. You don’t become the biggest man in blues since ages without having something special.

“Personally I love music that reflects real life. In those old recordings you hear the wrong notes by guitar player or the singer is a bit flat or sharp. In the end I enjoy those parts more than the perfect ones. It reflects my feelings and my life. It’s simply not perfect.”

Beth Hart will play at the Leamington Assembly on November 24. For tickets or more information call 311311 or go online.
