Canvas and Clay at Art Barn in Warwickshire

ABSTRACT qualities and powerful colours feature strongly in the work of Midlands artist Jan Gay, whose work is now on display at a rural south Warwickshire gallery.

The Art Barn in Preston Bagot is ending its exhibition season with Canvas and Clay, a presentation of the work of three different artists, who are connected by their imaginative use of colour and texture.

Among the three are art tutor and vice president of the Birmingham Art Circle, Jan Gay, who enjoys working in rich media such as oil, acrylic and soft pastels. Her bold paintings make powerful use of colour.

As well as painting for exhibitions and commissions, Jan works for part of her time in the community as an art tutor and is also involved in an Arts Council funded project, ‘Sustaining the person within’, taking art into residential care settings.

Born in London, she has moved around the country living in Norwich, Manchester and currently Solihull.

As well as being vice president of the Birmingham Art Circle, Jan is a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and a committee member of the Birmingham and Midland Pastel Society.

Exhibiting alongside Jan at the Art Barn are ceramicists Hilary La Force and Rupert B Parkinson. The display is on until tomorrow (Sunday). The Art Barn is at the Old Rectory in Preston Bagot and is open every day from 10am to 6pm.
