Celebration concerts at Coventry Cathedral

COVENTRY Cathedral is continuing its 50th anniversary celebrations with a series of concerts throughout autumn.

The weekly Organ recital series will come to a close with the Jubilee Organ Concert given by Dame Gillian Weir on Saturday September 15.

Dame Gillian is one of the foremost musicians in the world today and this concert will be one of her final performances on the organ, which is one she greatly admires.

A week later, and finally being performed in the place it was written for, is the performance of Sir Arthur Bliss’s The Beatitudes on Saturday September 22,

‘The work will be performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.

The Golden Jubilee Gala Concert, on Saturday September 29, will feature well known pieces such as 633 Squadron by Goodwin, ‘I was glad’ by Parry featured in the Royal Wedding last year and songs from South Pacific and Phantom of the Opera.

Elvis in the Cathedral, on Saturday October 27, will feature the Elvis’ Imperials gospel quartet and the Morriston Orpheus Choir.

The Imperials are one of the USA’s most well known Gospel quartets and backed Elvis in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Finally, on Saturday November 3, there will be a concert by the Jaguar Land Rover Band. This popular brass band will play pieces from all musical genres.
