Comedy at Coventry theatre reveals hitches in triple wedding

“ONE of the most famous comedies” of the 20th century is being staged this week.

JB Priestley’s When We Are Married, which has been continually performed since it was written in 1938, is on at the Criterion Theatre in Earlsdon.

The action follows the Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts, who were married on the same day by the same parson 25 years ago.

They gather at the Helliwell home to celebrate their silver wedding – when they learn that that parson had not been authorised to conduct the triple wedding ceremony.

Pandemonium breaks out when these pillars of society believe they have been living in sin for 25 years.

Calling it “one of the most famous comedies of the 20th century”, members of the Criterion are delighted to be bringing back a play that they performed in December 1961 during their 50th anniversary year.

Tickets to the show, which is running until Saturday, July 14, cost £9.50 (£7.50 members and £5 children). The show starts at 7.30pm.
