The updated version of a story first seen in 1879, still has so many resonances for modern audiences and centres around the role of women in society.

The play, renamed Nora, can be seen in the intimate setting of the theatre’s B2 auditorium up until February 18.

Director Patricia Benecke says: “Nora takes you on a dramatic emotional journey full of twists and turns. But it is also an uplifting story about a woman who makes a life-changing decision to break out of her world to explore who she really is.”

The title role will be played by the actress Penny Layden and the cast also includes former EastEnders actor Stuart Lang who played Rob Minter, along with David Michaels, Sanchia McCormack and Peter Lindford.

* Before the play opens the Belgrade’s creative team are also holding a special workshop during which they will use theatrical techniques to help people to learn key communication skills.

The workshop, on Tuesday, will be of particular interest to local businesses.
