Discover world premiere at Warwickshire concert

A WORLD premiere and young musicians from Hong Kong will feature in the second concert from Spires Youth Orchestra in Long Itchington tomorrow (Saturday).

The orchestra, which made its debut in January, will be joined by the La Salle School Wind Band from Hong Kong for a spring concert of music that gives a premiere to a new piece, Discovery, by composer and conductor Adam Sangster, a member of the youth orchestra who is also head boy at Aylesford School in Warwick.

The concert takes place at Holy Trinity church from 7.30pm.

The programme will include Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, Espana by Chabrier and the Cello Concerto No 1 in A minor by Saint-Saens, featuring youth orchestra cello soloist Ethan Gardner.

Also in the programme are two works by Edward Elgar, the Pomp & Circumstance March No 1 and the King Arthur Suite, being performed for the first time in the UK in an orchestral version.

Alongside Adam Sangster, conductors will include Spires Music founder Colin Touchin, John James and Kelvin Ngai, representing La Salle School.

Proceeds will be shared with the Friends for the Renovation of Long Itchington church.
