Enjoy a feast of classical music

Taking place at the Pump Room and All Saints’ church in Leamington, the weekend will also feature the music of John Ireland and Frank Bridge - with whom Britten studied - and almost 20 other British composers.

String quartets Sacconi, Coull, Fitzwilliam and Carduccci will be welcomed back to Leamington to perform with David Campbell on clarinet, Anna Tilbrook on piano, tenor Nicholas Mulroy, Nicholas Daniel on oboe and baritone Roderick Williams.

Also on the programme are concerts involving piano trios - the Hepplewhite Trio, winners of the 2012 Leamington Music Prize, and the Leonore Trio, whose members, Benjamin Nabarro, Gemma Rosefield and Tim Horton, have all appeared as part of Ensemble 360, which visits Warwick and Leamington every year.

These trios play here for the first time, as does the London Soloists Ensemble, which includes the well-known pianist John Lenehan and is led by Lorraine McAslan on violin.

Festival director Richard Phillips said: “We are bringing to Leamington top musicians who live in various parts of the UK, but it is good also to be offering platforms for some with local connections.”

Among these are Roderick Williams from Kineton and the Coull Quartet, which includes Leamington-born composer Robert Simpson and Coventry-born Mark Bebbington.

The music will be complemented by a Moving Music exhibition of artwork depicting past performers at the festival by Leamington Music’s artist-in-residence, Jane Williams.
