Festival of classical, folk . . . and all that jazz

Organisers of the Stratford Music Festival are limbering up for their 20th year with an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, folk and world musicians in a series of concerts and events.

Established as a charity, the festival has grown yearly and now presents a diverse programme of international artists and rising stars performing more than 20 concerts in both iconic and surprising venues throughout the town.

Previous festivals have featured The Mediaeval Baebes, jazz superstar Johnny Dankworth, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, who recently recorded with Julian Lloyd Webber, and collaborations with the RSC, which has provided opportunities for promising artists.

Running alongside the general programme, the festival also arranges a range of activities that include schools and community groups, free recitals and family events.

Ambrose Miller, the festival artistic director, said: “I am fully committed to bringing world-class artists to Stratford and promise audiences a programme of top-level music to rival any international festival.”

With provisional dates set for October 9–24, the festival will include family concerts and activities, the popular Lunchtime Series and Fringe Festival.
