Folk band bring distinctive sounds to Leamington’s Spa Centre

Northumbrian dance tunes, Anglo Scots ballads and New Orleans jazz are among the eclectic influences on guitarist Martin Simpson, who is performing with his band at the Spa Centre in Leamington tonight (Friday).

With bass player Danny Thompson, pedal steel player BJ Cole, Radiohead drummer Phil Selway, Bellowhead front man Jon Boden on fiddle, accordion ace Andy Cutting, ex Page and Plant hurdy gurdy man Nigel Eaton, singers Muireann Nic Amloaibh and Kellie While and co-producer Andy Seward on bass, the line-up produces distinctive sounds, led by Simpson’s guitars, banjola and banjo.

Simpson has been nominated 29 times in the 11 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - more than any other performer.

Tickets to the show, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £18.50 (concessions £16). Call 334418 or visit www.royalspacentreandtownhall.co.uk
