Get set for Food and Film Festival

The inugrual WarwickRocks Food and Film Festival takes off next weekend.

As we have previously reported over the past few weeks, the event will run for a week and celebrate local businesses.

The celebration gets underway on Saturday, August 17, with a closed street food festival and runs through until Sunday, August 25, where Warwick’s Market Place will be taken over by a giant outdoor screening of the Princess Bride.

All parts of the week will have a street food and local food flavour, thanks to the support of market providers Sketts and Brum Yum Yum.

n The first Saturday will feature an array of activities, with Smith Street in Warwick closed to traffic. Nearby at St John’s Museum the Networking Mummies are hosting their own event with a food and film flavour.

In the early evening, Warwick will host its first ever drive-in movie night, where Grease will be showing on the big screen off the Hampton Road, near Warwick Racecourse. Streetfood will be available.

n On Sunday, August 18, Warwick’s historic Lord Leycester Hospital is working with Live and Local to show Some Like it Hot and Romeo and Juliet with refreshments provided by local restaurant Catalan. The Rose and Crown will hold a ‘rum and reggae’ night, showing the movie Cool Runnings, selling half coconuts of rum with a steel band outside.

n On Monday evening, join Leofric Films at the Bread & Co Café, Smith Street, for extracts from their documentary A Walk Around Warwick (with wine and nibbles). The filmmakers and historian Dr. Sylvia Pinches will be in attendance to talk about the film, answer your questions and tell a few tales that didn’t make the final cut – it’s 6.30pm for 7pm start and tickets are £5.

Things will be swinging in the nearby Roebuck in Smith Street, where they are hosting a Grease night.

n On Tuesday, August 20, there’s the Big Food and Film Festival Quiz at the Punch Bowl, although tickets have now completely sold out for this event.

n On Wednesday, August 21, Warwick Racecourse is celebrating 100 years of Bollywood and offering some very special deals for Warwick residents.

Or how about seeing Gladiator at Warwick Castle?

n On Friday August 23, there is a Twilight market in Warwick town centre - and the nearby Tilted Wig in Market Place, there will be a Grease themed evening.

Warwick Castle is hosting the second of its three film line-up with Les Miserable on Friday evening.

Sweet As Cakes will be hosting a pudding night and a screening of Chocolat.
