Haunting and beautiful tale comes to Warwick Arts Centre

SOME of Britain’s most respected and emerging actors are performing in a new play showing at Warwick Arts Centre until Saturday.

Successful theatre company Frantic Assembly has joined forces with ith celebrated writer Abi Morgan to produce Lovesong, which comes to the arts centre stage at the beginning of a UK tour.

Two couples live and love in the same house – one young and full of hope, the other older and reaching a point of crisis.

They are the same couple, changed only by a lifelong love story, and their past and present selves collide in this haunting and beautiful tale of togetherness.

The cast include Siân Phillips, whose recent stage work includes the role of Juliet in Juliet and her Romeo, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Calendar Girls, while screen work includes her BAFTA-winning role in I, Claudius as well as Goodbye Mr Chips, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Dune. She is also a regular on BBC Radio 4’s Just a Minute.

Also taking the stage is Edward Bennett, who recently came to prominence when he received rave reviews for taking over the lead role from David Tennant in the RSC’s Hamlet in 2009. His other stage credits include Plenty, As You Like It and The Tempest, while he also appears in the upcoming feature film adaptation of War Horse, directed by Stephen Spielberg.

Abi Morgan’s writing for the screen includes the Margaret Thatcher film Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep, the critically acclaimed flagship BBC TV drama The Hour and the BAFTA award-winning drama Sex Traffic (Channel 4).
