Leamington children paint for sick peers

A HOLIDAY art workshop in Leamington is giving children the chance to present to their unwell peers the gift of art inspired by some of the most famous painters of our time.

Participants at Jessica Mallorie’s summer sessions at the Art Group Studios in Althorpe Street will look at the masterpieces of Matisse, Monet and Picasso, before creating their share of three large paintings in the style of each of the artists.

The works will then be donated to three children’s hospitals or children’s wards - including Birmingham Children’s Hospital - for patients to enjoy.

Jessica, an artist herself, said: “It’s so important to me that children’s hospitals have a nice environment for their children to be in.

“It’s great for children to be able to do a nice thing like that. I really liked the idea of children painting for children and it will be rewarding for them to see their work up on the walls of the hospitals.”

Jessica has five years of teaching experience, three of which she has been teaching children and, having been exhibiting and selling her own creations for 12 years, has her own studio at the Althorpe Street venue and runs regular art lessons for children throughout the year.

She said: “There are an awful lot of parents who are desperately looking for things for their children to do during the holidays and these workshops will provide them with a really fun way to spend the day.

“The children learn at very high standards as I only have practising artists teach here.”

The ‘Children painting for children’ workshop takes place on Tuesday August 23, Thursday August 25 and Friday August 26 from 10am to 2.30pm each day and is suitable for six to 12-year-olds.

Places for both workshops cost £25 for a day, with a ten per cent discount available for family bookings.
