Leamington people see sporting history in action

LEAMINGTON art gallery gave visitors the chance to see live boxing and watch a free theatrical performance as it launched a new exhibition.

Going for Gold! was officially opened by Warwick District Council chairman Cllr Michael Kinson, accompanied by special guests including Olympic swimmer Helen Slatter and recent torchbearer Peter Fraizer, who was the first person to run a marathon after having a kidney transplant.

The exhibition, which was curated by the gallery’s senior curatorial officer Vicki Slade to mark this year’s Olympics, takes a look at the social history of sporting heritage in Warwick district.

People can attend a free Friday Focus talk on Friday (July 27) when Bill Adcocks, who held the record for the Classic Marathon to Athens course for 35 years, will talk about his career as an Olympic marathon runner.
