Life is a cabaret at Kenilworth theatre

AN internationally famous musical that has seen revival after revival during its 45-year history is coming to a Kenilworth stage.

Based on Christopher Isherwood’s Berlin Stories and the play I Am A Camera, Cabaret will entertain audiences at the Talisman theatre from Monday until Saturday Ocober 22.

Featuring well-known numbers including Willkommen, Tomorrow Belongs To Me, Money and, not to forget, the title song, the show, directed by Steve Duckham with musical direction by Rosemary Gowers, will feature, say the Talisman team, a “deliciously seedy set” designed by John Ellen.

The story is set in a decadent Berlin at the end of the Weimar Republic.

Sally Bowles is a performer in the seedy Kit Kat Klub, where patrons and artists of all persuasions mingle and enjoy their comparative freedom. Into Sally’s life comes Cliff, an American travelling in Europe as he tries to finish his novel.

Although virtually penniless, he is soon captivated by the atmosphere that surrounds him, unaware of the slow, insidious rise to power of the Nazi party and all that it stands for.

Emcee drives all the performances on the stage and discreetly echoes the social and political changes that seep into the club’s clientele as he marshalls the Kit Kat Boys and Kit Kat Girls.
