Marking 100th Leamington Music festival

Musicians from across Europe will come together to celebrate the 100th festival by Leamington Music with a packed programme of song and celebration.

The 2015 Leamington Music Festival Weekend will bring some performance favourites and new faces to the Pump Rooms for four days of music.

Running from May 1 to 5, the extended weekend event will mark the hundredth festival that Festival Director Richard Phillips has created or directed over the last 38 years.

Opening with the Fitzwilliam Quartet, a group Richard first got to know in 1971 when they took up residency at the University of York.

Joined by Anna Tilbrook, they will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto K414 and Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet.

Also heading to the stage is Raphael Wallfisch who has played ten concerts in Richard’s festivals, and will return with his trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch for two concerts during the weekend.

Roderick Williams will bring vocals with his First World War programme, including Leamington-born composer William Denis Browne.

Lunchtime concerts will be given by Simon Wallfisch, and violinist Jana Novakova who will return to the town accompanied by her brother Petr Novak for the performance of Czech music and Schubert on May 3.

On the Bank Holiday Monday there is traditionally an organ recital at All Saints church.

The festival will draw to a close with a performance by the Henschel Quartet from Munich - joined for the first time by Michael Collins to play the Brahms Clarinet Quintet.
