Naughty witty puppets come to Coventry stage

AFTER almost five years of mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness, the Tony-award-winning Avenue Q is coming to Coventry next week.

Having enjoyed enormous success both on Broadway in New York and in London’s West End, the witty and rude comedy will take the stage at the Belgrade Theatre from Monday May 28 to Saturday June 2.

The musical, created by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, combines a cast of humans and puppets who tackle subjects such as dating, racism, being gay and finding one’s purpose in life.

The story follows Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate new to the area, as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life.

A limited bank balance, the distraction of a busty blonde, and a variety of weird and wonderful friends and neighbours lead Princeton on a story of self-discovery.

The show, which has also enjoyed success in Las Vegas, Brazil, Argentina and Canada, features an award-winning score that includes a series of naughty, yet witty songs such as What Do You Do with a BA in English?, If You Were Gay, I’m Not Wearing Underwear Today and It Sucks to Be Me.

Due to the nature of the play, Avenue Q is not suitable for people aged under 12 years of age.

Tickets cost from £20.50 to £30.25, while cheaper prices are available online. Call 024 7655 3055 or visit www.belgrade.co.uk
