Speaking to the Courier before his show at the arts centre, he said: “I am so happy with how everything has been for me these past few years. This life was hard to imagine for most of my youth. I did not think it would ever be possible. God has been very generous to me.”

Bombino said he mostly sings about “his people”, adding: “I try to inspire people to follow a good path in life and to respect their culture. I play a new kind of mix of Tuareg music and Western rock music so I think people can understand my music more easily.”

And when in need of inspiration, Bombino does not have far to look. He said: “I get it from love - that’s it. Love for my child, my wife, my family, my friends, my people, my country, the beautiful desert where I live.”

The show is on Sunday (October 27) at 7.30pm. Tickets £14.50. Call 024 7652 4524 or visit www.warwickartscentre.co.uk
