Once a Warwick Castle jester, now a crisis-busting stand-up

MANY a family may have seen the talents of Stuart Goldsmith under his guise of all-singing, all-dancing and fire-breathing and juggling jester at Warwick Castle.

But they may be forgiven for not immediately recognising the now-stand-up performer, who will, dressed in normal clothes, bring his second solo show to the Birmingham Comedy Festival on Tuesday.

In Another Lovely Crisis, Stuart, who is originally from Leamington, looks at one man’s fundamental inability to function without anxiety.

Whether he’s cheering up a distressed child, helping prevent a riot, or genuinely saving another human being’s actual life, Stuart Goldsmith is excellent in a crisis.

But when the chips aren’t down, it’s a very different story.

During the show, Stuart thrives on the stress of organising illegal raves for five year-olds, becoming a plane crash obsessive and avoiding the unexpected consequences of dressing as a policeman.

He tells the audience to embrace their anxieties, learn to fit into the world - and understand what it’s like to be Tasered.

Having been a stand-up comedian for the past five years, Stuart’s talents run wider as, during his street-performing days, he learnt o fire-breathe, fire juggle, walk on broken glass, hammer a nail into his nose, eat glass and juggle chainsaws.

Another Lovely Crisis is on at the Electric Circus in Birmingham on Tuesday at 7.30pm. For tickets, visit www.theelectric.co.uk or www.bhamcomfest.co.uk
