Oscar-nominated Arcade Fire collaborator Owen Pallett plays in Coventry

His last album ‘In Conflict’ was a shortlisted nominee for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize – the Canadian equivalent of the Mercury Prize – and he has long been Arcade Fire’s string arranger, responsible for the majestic orchestrations of their first three full-length albums and many of the beguiling and bewitching sonics of their fourth.

As a solo artist, he supported Arcade Fire before their sell-out gigs at Earls Court in London last year, using looping technology to weave layers of violin, vocals and rhythms to create a powerful, dramatic and often beautiful sound. He was nominated for an Oscar last year for his work with Arcade Fire member, Will Butler, on the soundtrack to the Spike Jonze film, Her.

Owen is joined on the bill by Nicholas Krgovich, a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with No Kids, Gigi and Piano. Joining them on the night is Toronto’s Chris A Cummings, better known as Marker Starling, whose latest album, Rosy Maze, is the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed 2010 Mantler album, Monody. Rosy Maze blends McCartney-esque pop, Brazilian bossa nova, 1960s’ movie soundtrack sparkle and Beach Boys baroque melodies.
