Presenting an alternative to Glastonbury at church

The group performs at St Peter’s Church in the deserted medieval village of Wolfhampcote near Braunston on Sunday.

Penelope Rapson, Fiori’s artistic director, said: “Performing in such a splendidly desolate church as St Peter’s is just perfect for the wonderful renaissance choral music we shall be singing.

“You might say this is Fiori’s alternative to the Glastonbury Festival. We shall be taking audiences back to the sound-world of an earlier era, to hear amazing English choral music from the Tudor times and enjoy the magical atmosphere of this isolated church.”

“Heading up the bill is choral music by much loved Elizabethan composer Thomas Tallis and his rather less known contemporary Robert White. We’ll be performing White’s extraordinarily poignant Lamentations, and also some great seven-part music that Tallis composed for the wedding of Mary Tudor to Philip of Spain – a grand occasion when the Spanish and English Royal Choirs both teamed up to sing together.”
