Rhythm and blues at Leamington church festival

LEAMINGTON’s parish church is welcoming a nationally-famous rhythm and blues musician to perform the finale of its three-day celebration.

Steve Walwyn, who joined Dr Feelgood as a guitarist in 1989 and continues to tour Europe to play to audiences, has especially formed a new band for the All Saints’ Festival - Steve Walwyn and Friends.

With a daughter as head chorister at the church and his wife part of the Friends of All Saints’ Music group, the musician has close ties to the building and all it represents.

He said: “The church does a lot of good work in Leamington and I’m very glad that I can help out in this way. It’s great that this is a family event for me as well as a way to support the community.”

All Saints’ priest in charge Christopher Wilson said: “The church has long been a wonderful space for performing all sorts of music. It’s fantastic for us to be able to host talented contemporary artists like Steve. We are particularly pleased he is performing because of his close links with the church.”

The three-day volunteer-run event, which is raising funds for the church, starts on Friday June 17 with an art exhibition opening at 7.30pm. During the course of the weekend there will be a poetry recital, a jazz dinner dance and other music and cultural showcases. For further details and to buy tickets, go online.
