Royal art for Royal Leamington Spa

ARTWORK inspired by the 1950s and the British monarchy are forming part of celebrations in Leamington for the the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Pump Room gallery in Leamington has put together a special temporary display, which looks at how royal coronations, jubilees and visits have been celebrated in and around the town, which was given its Royal title by Queen Victoria.

Included are a commemorative plate made for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, coronation souvenirs and a recently acquired loving cup and charger plate from the Royal Collection, which have been produced for the Diamond Jubilee.

Senior curatorial officer Vicki Slade said: “Royal Jubilees are a time of national celebration and it is fitting that our Royal town should join in the festivities. The display brings together a fascinating collection of objects from past royal occasions.”

On Friday the gallery will welcome Archie Pitts, of the Leamington Society and the Friends of Leamington Station, who will talk about restoration projects involving some of Leamington’s most iconic sites, including the recently renovated Art Deco waiting rooms at the railway station.

On June 8 he will talk about the reinstatement of the Victorian Linden Arches in the Pump Room Gardens.

All Friday Focus talks begin at 1pm and are free to attend. To find out more, visit www.warwickdc.gov.uk/royalpumprooms
