Side-splitting comedy showcases Leamington talent

Side-splitting comedy, spectacular dance routines and glamorous outfits are promised in a well-loved musical coming to Leamington this month.

The acting, singing and dancing talents of people from across south Warwickshire and beyond will be displayed for five nights running when the Leamington and Warwick Musical Society (LWMS) stage their new production of The Producers at the Spa Centre from next Tuesday (March 19).

The stage sensation, adapted from Mel Brooks’ 1968 film, starred Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and John Barrowman and was a sell-out in London’s West End and New York’s Broadway.

Audiences follow the story of theatrical producer Max Bialstock and accountant Leo Bloom, who want to produce a sure-fire Broadway flop - only to see the plan improbably go awry when the show turns out to be a hit.

Members of LWMS say the show contains “some of the funniest dialogue ever written for a stage show” and “spectacular dance routines and some of the most eccentric over-the-top characters ever to appear in a musical - with costumes to match”.

Directed by Stephen Duckham, with Alastair Evans as musical director and Nikki Shurvinton as choreographer, the show runs from Tuesday March 19 to Saturday March 23 at 7.30pm each evening and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £13. Call 425507 or visit www.royalspacentreandtownhall.co.uk
