Sleeping Beauty: only one week left to wait

FAMILIES who have not yet booked their tickets to see Sleeping Beauty at the Spa Centre should note that there is only one week to go until curtain up.

The pantomime team at the Leamington venue are working hard to make sure everything will be perfect on the opening night.

Director Mark Thorburn said discussions began early on in the year about the key elements of the show, including sets, costumes and special effects.

It is not only the actors who have rehearsals, technical run-throughs are important as well.

Mark said: “It’s a really busy process and we work long days to ensure everything is ready.”

Supporting the Spa Centre’s own team is Coventry-based pantomime specialist Imagine Theatre, whose managing director, Steve Boden, is also overseeing ten other productions across the country.

He said: “We have a great team of directors, choreographers, musical directors, actors and stage management who work very closely with the excellent theatre staff at the venues in which we produce.

“Pantomime, unlike other touring shows is a real bespoke product, tailored for the venue and audience who will watch it.

“It really is a collaborative effort between us and the theatre staff and anyone who’s ever been to the panto can see what a huge undertaking the show is.”

Preparations have already begun for next year’s show, and tickets will be available in January.

Meanwhile, Sleeping Beauty is showing from next Friday, December 9, until Saturday December 31.
