The stand-up GP with frank views is coming to Leamington

A FAMILY doctor who isn’t shy about blowing the whistle is bringing health matters to the stand-up stage at the Spa Centre in Leamington.

Dr Phil Hammond - a GP, writer, broadcaster and possibly the only comedian to have appeared at a public inquiry - will entertain an audience with his Rude Health Show at the venue in Newbold Terrace on Friday November 9.

Readers of Private Eye will recognise Dr Hammond’s name as it appears in the publication’s pages regularly, but he has also appeared on the BBC television shows Have I Got News for You, The One Show and Countdown, as well as BBC radio shows The News Quiz and The Now Show.

He is known for blowing the whistle on everything - politicians, doctors, patients, death, drugs, sex, himself - but with plenty of comedy thrown in. Free swabs and sick notes for all.

Phil is a patron of Patients First, which supports NHS and social care whistleblowers, and a vice president of the Patients’ Association.

He remains very opposed to the structural reorganisation of the Government’s health reforms and has had a heated debated with former health secretary Andrew Lansley on BBC 1’s Question Time. His Radio 4 sitcom Polyoaks, about GPs struggling with the health reforms, returns next month.

The show at the Spa Centre starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £16. Call 0845 76553055 or go online.
