Jolly japes with the ‘gels’ of Grangewood at Leamington theatre

IF you ever loved all those childhood adventures about schoolgirls searching for missing treasure and having midnight feasts in the dorm then you’ll really enjoy the latest production at Leamington’s Loft Theatre which is the wicked parody Daisy Pulls It Off.

The play is set in a pre-war world of jolly japes, sports fixtures and snobbery in the best tradition of Angela Brazil - who lived in Coventry - and perhaps Enid Blyton’s later Mallory Towers series.

The plot is deliberately absurd but just watch the choreography of what promises to be a positive hoot of a performance by Rachel Cooper, as poor scholarship girl Daisy, plus Katherine Bayley as her best friend Trixie and Zoe Faithfull as Grangehurst School’s head girl Clare.

Director David Hankins says: “The show was written by Denise Deegan in 1983 and is full of hilarious characters and splendid scrapes. It celebrates with a sly wit and big heart, an arguably sweeter and more innocent era.

“It’s also perfect entertainment for balmy summer evenings when audiences can enjoy a Pimms and a giggle with the girls of Grangewood.”

Daisy Pulls It Off runs from Wednesday until Saturday July 16 at the Loft Theatre, Victoria Colonade, just off the Parade.

Tickets can be booked online at any time via the Loft website www.loft-theatre.co.uk or by calling 0844 493 4938. *Note: Tickets not available from the box office for the night of July 7 which is a charity performance.
