Peter to fly into a festive Playbox

The youth theatre’s popular festive show tradition will continue next month when Peter Pan opens at The Dream Factory on December 18.

And tickets for the heartwarming tale of the boy who never grew up are already sought after.

But the JM Barrie classic will see a change for the youth group as director, Emily Jane Quash promises to return the novel to its Edwardian roots.

Complete with some magic and flying thanks to the renowned High Performance company, Emily said: “Often Playbox Theatre revisualise classic work setting it out of time and bringing it into a contemporary world.

“Our Peter Pan this Christmas is no such project – we are Edwardian in design, beautiful settings and traditional swordfights on board the pirate ship.

“I love the story and always have done since first seeing it on stage at the Barbican Theatre in 1982.

“I hope audiences will love seeing the real Peter Pan as J.M. Barrie would surely know him.”

Peter Pan follows last year’s sell-out The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and is based on Playbox’s original staging at The Dream Factory in 2001.

And bringing the story to life at the youth theatre will be 16-year-old Lynton Appleton as Peter, Nancy Hall as Wendy and Asher Hardy taking on the villainous Captain Hook in Neverland. Performances will be at 7pm or 3pm on various days from December 18 to January 4.

There will be no showings on Mondays or Tuesdays through the run.
