Playbox Theatre production gives Greek mythology a modern twist

Ancient Greek mythology is given a modern twist in Playbox Theatre’s production She Who Shines being staged for one night only at the Dream Factory in Warwick on Thursday (June 26).

According to the tale Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, once kept the world in a constant summer.

She had only one daughter, the beautiful Kore, whom she kept safely hidden away.

However, the innocent Kore left her hidden Eden when gathering flowers and was immediately kidnapped by Hades the god of the dead, dragged to the underworld, and forced to marry him.

In her grief, Demeter killed every living plant and cast humanity into its first winter.

The play covers themes including loneliness, death and a mother’s love for her child as First Demeter then Hades step forward to try and convince the other gods to give them Kore.

The show starts at 7.30pm.
