Just Macbeth is a “crazy and outrageously funny” version of the tale of witchcraft and murder – and it’s coming to the Spa Centre.

It is packed with some features - such as witches and ghosts - that will be familiar to those who know the original, but also includes such un-Shakespearean additions as angry garden gnomes and marshmallows

Andy Griffith’s play is described as “a really silly but no less faithful version of Shakespeare’s gory tragedy” written especially for young people whilst keeping the grown-ups giggling throughout.

Alan Gill, the artistic director of Teatro Youth, which isputting on the show, said: “We were overjoyed to be given the rights to Just Macbeth by top Australian theatre company Bell Shakespeare and to know that this production will be the first performance outside Scotland.

“We need something different and equally challenging and it has been great fun to work with these young people on the wonderful Monty Pythonesque version of the play.

“It is very funny and yet very faithful to the original and is a brilliant introduction to Shakespeare for any young person and those who know Macbeth well will adore the liberties taken by Australia’s foremost children’s writer Andy Griffiths.”

It will be performed today (Friday) at 1,30pm and 7.30pm. For tickets call 01926 334418.
