There’s plenty to do at the Pump Room in Leamington

LEAMINGTON’s Pump Room gallery is continuing to host its temporary exhibition of Impressionist artwork by Warwickshire painter James Edward Duggins until February 12.

The show presents a rare chance to see a wide range of works by the popular - but now often forgotten - artist and photographer, who was born in Cubbington in 1881 and ran a photography business in Regent Grove during the early 20th century.

This is the first retrospective exhibition of Duggin’s work to take place since the artist’s death in 1968. It includes paintings, pastels, watercolours and photographs from both public and private collections.

On Friday January 20, David Barby, art and antiques expert and president of the Friends of Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum (FLAG), will talk about the Duggins exhibition and introduce the paintings from his private collection, which are on loan to the gallery.

The talk, which is free, starts at 1pm and last for 30 minutes.

On Saturday January 28, young people aged 13 to 19 can attend a pinhole photography sessions between 11am and 4pm, at which artist Shaim Wilcox will help participants to create their own photographs using pinhole boxes, photographic paper and light, taking inspiration from Duggins’ images.

Places cost £8 and must be booked: call 742700.

Pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi’s prints will be the subject of gallery assistant Jake Watts’ lunchtime talk on Friday January 27 at 1pm. These colourful prints are currently on display in the gallery.
