Toploader heads to Warwickshire for summer festival

THE picturesque hilltop village of Napton is preparing once again to host its seventh annual music festival this summer - and with Toploader headlining, there is plenty to look forward to.

Four of the five original members of the band, which have more than two million album sales to their name and are best known for their global hit cover, Dancing in the Moonlight, will perform on the Saturday night of the two-day festival, supported by Guns2Roses, the UK’s leading Guns ’n’ Roses tribute band.

Also included in the 14-band line-up are the Total Stone Roses - a favourite from last year’s event, Coventry bands The Fallows and The Session and Rugby-based punk band The Jellyheads.

And new for this year will be the ‘reggaesoundsystem’ - a separate marquee playing reggae and ska throughout the weekend to keep everyone in the festival mood.

Gordon Clarke, festival trustee and organiser said: “It’s good value for money more than anything. You get to see loads of great music for a small cost.

“I think the Courier reviewer last year called it a ‘boutique’ festival, which we liked - sort of up-market but with good music.

“We’re aiming for a crowd of 1,500, which may not sound like a lot in festival terms, but for the size of the site it will make for a really nice weekend.”

Camping will be available at the neighbouring field to the festival site, while Warwickshire brewery beer Purity will be on tap at the event, which is entirely organised by a team of ten Napton volunteers.

Gordon said: “We all enjoy doing it.

“It’s a great hobby and we always like to donate money towards local musicians after the festival if we have a pot of money to do so.”

The Napton Festival takes place on Friday July 6 and Saturday July 7. Weekend tickets cost £22.50 or £30 including camping, while cheaper one-day tickets are available. Under-16s gain free entry to the festival and camping for them is also free if they are accompanied by an adult.
