Vibrant collection in Leamington displays local talent

PHOTOGRAPHY and digital artwork sit alongside oil, pastel, watercolour and mixed media paintings in an end-of-year showcase by members of the Leamington Studio Artists.

The display, which gathers the work of 13 artists, who are all from around the Midlands and follow their individual styles, is on at Gallery 150 in Leamington until Sunday.

Among them is Second World War evacuee, Terence Merrick, who, after having to leave London during the war, found himself in amongst the nature and wildlife of Wales.

It was venturing into the mountains that inspired him to pick up his pencil and draw and he went on to study - teaching himself - different aspects of wildlife.

Focusing on a love for big cats, his favourite became the lion, and his paintings have, over the years, captivated many celebrities and adorn the walls of their homes in Kenya, Australia and the United States.

Terry has also won the Gold Medal Award from the Wildlife Art Society.

The Leamington Studio Artists invite artists in all media from across the Midlands to join their group, which aims to promote the visual arts in and around Leamington. To find out more, visit www.lsa-artists.co.uk
