Victoria Wood musical comes to Kenilworth

A MUSICAL comedy penned by British comedian Victoria Wood is coming to the Priory Theatre in Kenilworth this week.

Acorn Antiques, which was first seen on BBC television 21 years ago and updated by Wood for musical theatre, follows Miss Babs’ struggle to keep her antiques business open, as shop after shop in the High Street is forced out by the big chains.

Can she afford to turn down the offer from The Guilty Bean, the world’s second biggest chain of coffee shops, who say, “We’re second so we grind harder”?

If they do update the shop, can they still afford to employ Mrs Overall?

And will Mr Clifford ever get his memory back and remember who he’s engaged to?

More worrying that than, will Mrs Overall be able to tap dance while holding the tray?

Director Stephen Boden said; “It is an absolute pleasure working from a script penned by the inimitable Victoria Wood.

“There’s a laugh every second, and the songs aren’t just musically brilliant, but side-splittingly funny too.

“The cast have taken on their roles superbly and the spirit of the classic TV show is there for all to see, alongside classic Victoria Wood catchy tunes.”

Acorn Antiques: The Musical, which contains adult content, opens at the theatre in Rosemary Hill tonight (Monday) and is on until Saturday March 31 at 7.30pm each evening.
