Warwick Collection’s jewel is now complete

THE “jewel in the crown” of a unique collection of paintings celebrating Warwickshire’s capital town has already impressed visitors to a Warwick gallery.

Milverton-based artist Kevin Parrish’s Warwick Collection has been on display at the Mitchell Gallery for some time, but the eighth piece, an oil painting of Warwick Castle, has only recently been completed and the 40 by 30 ins original work can now be seen at the Church Street studio.

Toni Storey, gallery assistant and artist, said: “The response has been really good so far. It’s mostly been, ‘wow!’

“We are thrilled to have Kevin’s latest work here. He has spent a lot of time working on it this summer.

“It’s an idea that was mooted in the spting and Kevin certainly has not disappointed. It’s a stunning work of art.”

She added: “It’s part of a collection of eight Warwick pieces - we like to think it’s the jewel in the crown because obviously the castle is key to the town of Warwick.

“It’s nice to have that exclusivity. Warwick town prides itself on independent retailers, restaurants and bars and having this collection in our gallery retains that sense of special quality.”

Kevin’s painting of the castle, along with another recently-completed depiction of the old courts in Warwick, will be on display at the Mitchell Gallery until it is sold, but people can also buy canvas and paper prints, which Kevin will embellish by hand.

Toni said: “The castle is of course a popular scene for artists, but I have never seen it depicted like this. Kevin creates this magical atmosphere with his use of light and shade.

“He uses a selection of photographs and sketches and imbues his paintings and sketches with a wonderful ambience.

“This one is like a winter wonderland with this gentle frost on the trees.”

The full Warwick Collection can be seen at the gallery. To find out more, call 408787 or go online.
