Warwick musician gets political

The 37-year-old and his brother Dave wrote all 16 tracks of the album, which was recorded at Woodbine Studios in Leamington by John Rivers, who in his time has also recorded work by The Specials.

Matt, who sings and plays the guitar, is accompanied by Matt Haycock on drums, Stefan Harris on bass guitar and Roger Davison and Sean Griffin on guitar.

Describing the style as “rock and indie”, Matt said some of the tracks are “protesty”, with four of them about conflicts - in Bosnia, Palestine and Israel, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although his main job is outside of the music industry for the time being, Matt is serious about going professional as a musician.

And with a big gig lined up at the Islington in London next Saturday (January 5), things are looking good for him.

He said: “I really believe in this album. Most people would enjoy at least ten of the tracks. It’s real stuff - I have put myself out on a limb for it. We all have jobs but we are pretty serious about our music.”

Matt’s musical influences include the work of Bob Dylan, Terry Reid, Richard Ashcroft, Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher - and he has three other albums under his belt, which he plans to record as soon as he has the funds to do so.

He and his band will be performing live at the Black Horse pub in Saltisford, Warwick, tomorrow (Saturday) and are planning more gigs in and around south Warwickshire during January.
