Warwick’s new music venue has mystique

WARWICK’s newest live music venue has already attracted a string of London music professionals and has big plans for the coming year.

The team at the Warwick Cavern in Welton Road have plenty to be proud about and are looking forward to welcoming people from south Warwickshire and beyond to see in 2012 as they host a night of rock ‘n’ roll.

Among the performers will be Barry Keen, lead singer of The Establishment and owner of the venue.

He said: “Our ethos is very important. We have tried to take the place back in time and make it really authentic.

“It is done out like it would have been in the 1960s. We have recreated the experience of people who used to go to live music gigs at that time.

“I have seen it in people’s faces - how it all comes back to them. That’s at the heart of it.

“The bands have all told us what a fantastic venue they think this is. It has proper mystique, like the theatre. It’s unique.”

Within its first six weeks of trading, the Cavern has hosted several live music nights, established weekly Friday rock ‘n’ roll nights and Sunday blues sessions and signed up to play next year are Paul Jones and the Blues Band, the Zombies, Zoot Money and his Big Roll Band and Alvin Stardust, among many others.

The venue’s new year’s eve celebration will include performances by, as well as The Establishement, Absolute Party and jazz-funk duo Rhythm & Wax and there will be bacon rolls, hot dogs, beef burgers, fries and sparkling wine.

Barry, who has been singing since he was 15 and worked as a business consultant for 36 years, said: “I have a real passion for both music and business, which is why this works.”
