Having been selected as finalists in the National Festival of Music for Youth for the past three years and at the grand final of the BBC Choir of the Year last year, the Warwickshire County Choristers have won the Choir of the Day award in their category at this year’s BBC Choir of the Year competition.

Their colleagues in the Warwickshire County Male Voices, which is also run in partnership with the Warwickshire County Music Service, picked up the same award in their category.

The next round of the competition sees four selected choirs from each category perform at the Royal Festival Hall in London in October. Then the winners in each group, plus two ‘wild cards’, will compete at the November finals in Manchester.

The choristers have toured France and Belgium, produced two CDs and appeared on radio and TV, while they have also won an award in the Cornwall International Male Voice Festival 2011 and were featured guests at the National Conference of British Choral Directors in summer 2011.

They are performing at St Mary’s church in Warwick on June 25.
