Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, 11am to 10pm: Belgrade Mela. Showcasing Coventry’s South Asian arts, artists and arts organisations, the Belgrade Mela will see representatives from Coventry’s diverse South Asian communities come together to celebrate South Asian arts in Coventry and to provide a showcase for emerging South Asian talent in the city. Workshops running between 11am to 5pm in the B2 auditorium this year include Encouraging South Asians into Higher Education, Yoga, Bollywood Dancing, An Introduction to Classical Instruments and Learning to Play the Dhol. Stallholders from across the South Asian community will be on hand throughout the afternoon selling traditional artisan crafts as well as a selection of sweet and savoury food items. During the evening, South Asian talent from across Coventry will take to the Belgrade Main stage for a 2 hour, 40 minute showcase featuring special guest star and Punjabi hit-maker Sukshinder Shinda. Old Court House, Jury Street, Warwick, 7pm: Stand and Deliver – A light hearted re-enactment of the Historic 1776 trial of Warwick’s notorious highwayman, Bendigo Mitchell, presented by The Slaughterhouse Players. Bendigo Mitchell was a notorious highwayman who preyed on travellers along the Warwick to Banbury turnpike and the Fosse. The Slaughterhouse Players will tell the tale of Bendigo and his horse Skater, who got his nick name when he skittered across the frozen pond at Chesterton Water Mill, with Bendigo on his back, to escape capture. Members of the audience are being encouraged to dress in the fashions of the time and take part in the proceedings. Twelve of their number, who will be drawn at random, will take their places at the end of the evening as members of the jury, to deliver the verdict on the trial of Bendigo Mitchell and his accomplices. Warwick Castle: A feast for eyes and ears awaits as no fewer than four fearless horseback heroes push their skills and agility to the limit in The Great Joust. The knights are back to impress the crowds gathered on the banks of the River Avon with an all-new show, just part of an action-packed full day out at the attraction. The event will also celebrate the opening of the Award Winning RHS Chelsea garden in Jephson Gardens.
