"Bring back A&E at St Cross": Health pledge from Rugby Conservatives ahead of local elections
“Our focus is simple: delivering on the priorities of Rugby residents”. Here’s the election manifesto from Rugby Conservatives...
“We will take practical action where it matters most. That starts with supporting our town centre by introducing two hours of free parking in council-owned car parks - helping local businesses thrive and bringing more people back into Rugby.
We will fight to restore proper urgent healthcare provision at St Cross, because residents deserve access to high-quality emergency care close to home - not to be sent to Coventry when they need help most. Rugby’s former MP, Mark Pawsey, started and led a campaign to introduce doctor-led urgent care at St Cross.
He managed to secure a commitment from the NHS to bring doctors back to St Cross - but under Labour this has failed to materialise. That’s why last year we started a petition demanding an A&E for our ever-expanding town which 5,500 Rugby residents have already signed– and we’ll keep pushing on your behalf.

We will protect Rugby’s countryside and green belt, after the Labour–Liberal Democrat council attempted to concrete over it. Rugby’s Conservative councillors have been the only ones fighting these proposals alongside Rugby residents. Future development must be sensible, sustainable, and supported by the infrastructure our communities need.
We will get the basics right. That means ensuring bins are collected on time, increasing call centre staffing so residents are not left waiting on the phone for answers, and investing in enforcement to crack down on fly tipping to keep our town centre and rural roads clean.
We will also take decisive action on local concerns, including ending the council’s support for the use of Dunchurch Park as an asylum hotel, reflecting the views of many residents.
The failing national Labour government still plans to scrap Rugby Borough Council in the next two years. Rugby Conservatives support proposals for one Warwickshire council – as this will save the most money for Rugby’s council taxpayers. Creating two councils – for North and South Warwickshire - would mean higher reorganisation costs, duplication and years of disruption.
This election is about choosing a council that listens and acts. We are ready to deliver for Rugby."
