I was pleased to see that the chamber’s final Quarterly Economic Survey of 2014 shows that companies across Coventry and Warwickshire were coming into this year in confident mood.

After many years of doom and gloom, it is great to be able to approach 2015 with a positive outlook. There are still threats to our growth, including the fluctuating fortunes of Europe that certainly have an impact that is felt here in Warwickshire.

That said, the general mood is one of ‘if we continue to work hard and have the right conditions, our businesses can grow in the next 12 months’.

In terms of the conditions for growth, this will undoubtedly be affected by the outcome of the general election this May. As a chamber, we do not take a party political stance but offer a voice for businesses in our area to our local, regional and national decision makers.

To that end, we have organised two ‘hustings’ events for businesses in this area to put their questions and concerns to Parliamentary candidates.

On February 13, we are hosting Chris White (Conservative) and Lynnette Kelly (Labour) the candidates in the Leamington and Warwick constituency and, once announced, the Liberal Democrat candidate is expected to confirm too. The event is at the Holiday Inn on Tachbrook Park.

Then, on March 6, we have Jeremy Wright (Conservative), Bally Singh (Labour) and Richard Dickson (Liberal Democrat) all confirmed as attending our event as the Kenilworth and Southam candidates from 8am until 9.30am at the Holiday Inn Kenilworth.
