Chefs from an award-winning Midlands burger brand are getting ready to take on rivals from across the country in an historic ‘champion of champions’ contest next week.

Libertine Burger, which has restaurants in Leamington Spa, Rugby and Stratford-upon-Avon, is one of 30 finalists set to take part in a huge, one-off competition to mark the 10th anniversary of the National Burger Awards.

The brand, which has reached the finals of the National Burger Awards three times - including this year - as well as being crowned UK winners in 2019, has been shortlisted in the ‘Champion of Champions’ contest on 3rd September to see which signature burger will establish its place in history.

Libertine Burger’s entry is a double #099, which is two of its signature beef patties, with American cheese, bone-marrow onions, smoked garlic mayo, lettuce and pickles.

Founder Charles Harris said: "Our team are looking forward to showing off their skills at the National Burger Awards Champion of Champions contest in London next week. Our #099 was initially one of our specials but was so popular we put it on the menu permanently at the end of last year so we think it’s a great entry for this competition and are hoping it impresses the judges as much as our customers.

“We’ve got a long history with the National Burger Awards and it’s a real compliment to be invited to take part in this historic showdown alongside some of the best in the business.”

Libertine Burger launched in 2017 and has gone on to become a staple on the street food scene. As well as its restaurants and a food truck that tours the UK’s biggest festivals, the business - whose headquarters is in Leamington Spa - serves up over a thousand takeaway burgers each week from its sites in Warwickshire as well as sending its burger kits across the country so people can enjoy them in their own homes.

Libertine’s perfect patties have also seen the brand make it to the finals of both the British Street Food Awards and the Street Food Championships in 2021, as well as the Just Eat awards. It also took silver in the Taste of the West Midlands category in the 2024 West Midlands Tourism Awards, which celebrate the region’s visitor attractions and venues.
