The UK’s second Small Business Saturday is taking place on December 6.

The grassroots campaign is non-political and non-commercial. It is intended to highlight the five million small businesses, which between them provide 60 per cent of private sector jobs and nearly 50 per cent of private sector turnover, and to encourage consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their community.

The day takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses throughout the year.

Across Warwick and Leamington there are a high number of small businesses, all helping to maintain and improve the prosperity of the borough.

There are lots of benefits that can be gained from a vibrant small business sector and by supporting a national day these benefits can be maximised.

Small Business Saturday want all kinds of small businesses to get involved, whether that be a family business, local shop, online business, wholesaler or small manufacturer.

As the FSB have been championing Keeping Trade Local for some time, we are encouraging local businesses to take advantage of this national day and maximise the opportunities for their business.

For more information on how to take part businesses can visit www.smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com for a starter pack.

Last year in support of the campaign we were joined by Jeremy Wright, MP for Kenilworth & Southam, and Chris White, MP for Leamington & Warwick on two shopping trips, visiting small firms in Leamington to highlight the importance of small businesses.

After visiting local businesses Jeremy Wright said: “I met traders who have some great ideas and the energy and enthusiasm to put them into action. I want people to see what a gem they have on their doorstep and to take advantage of the variety, friendliness and good service on offer.”
