Micro-brewery wins two awards for its real ales

Long Itch Brewery, a micro-brewery based in Long Itchington and Offchurch, has recently won two awards for it’s real ales.

Its ‘Dark Side’ dark ale was awarded the ‘2nd beer of the festival’ at the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Heart of Warwickshire branch’s annual beer festival in Harbury at the end of August.

And at the annual awards of the Society of IndependentBrewers (SIBA) Midlands region, the ‘Dubbel Trubbel’ Belgian style ale was awarded a silver medal in the ‘bottled bitters 5% and over’ category.

Both awards had tough competition from many brewers.

Brewery owner Trevor Howarth, who lives in Long Itchington, said: “I was surprised and delighted to win both awards. After two years work setting up the brewery and just eight months of operation, it means a lot that we can now say we’re an award winning brewery. Many thanks to all the drinkers who voted for us at Harbury, as well as the hard-working CAMRA and SIBA staff who ran both events successfully. Now we can look to the future and hopefully build on this success by attracting some new customers to enjoy our ales.

“The current ‘craft beer revolution’ is fuelling interest from a new generation of drinkers, who are looking for something with more flavour than the usual mass-produced drinks. Cask ale is enjoying consistent growth, and more people are now seeing it as a locally crafted product made from natural ingredients, rather than the outdated view of it as an ‘old man’s drink’.

“The brewery has a range of six beers, from a light blonde ale through pale, golden and best bitter to stronger dark and Belgian beer styles. Seasonal specials will be brewed, such as our new 6.5% chocolate vanilla stout, which will be launched at the Merchants Inn in Rugby for their beer festival in late October. We’ve also expanded into small scale bottling. You can find our ales at several pubs in Warwickshire, and we have a premises licence to sell direct from the brewery.”
