New business aims to bring drama workshops to schools

A new local business called Creative Literacy Stars aims to serve primary schools across Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

Carys Boulton recently moved from South Wales to Leamington, and after seven years of specialising in drama and performing arts within education, she decided to start up her own business.

Carys said: “Not knowing where to start, without any funding or knowledge, I’ve now set up my own website and schools database and have already had bookings around the area for certain programmes.

“I started the company because there seemed to be a lack of drama and performing arts within schools across the West Midlands.

“My aim is to help children engage with their literacy and oracy by carrying out our new and stimulating drama workshops which will then enable them to express their words and feelings on to paper.

“The school will pick the theme/topic, for example The Victorians. Then they will chose a programme, and I will create the lesson plan and deliver the workshops to the pupils. Each and every single lesson is planned and carried out by extremely well trained and well experienced practitioners.

“I have a testimonial page on my website as well as a brand new promo video that I launched recently showing the results and excellent feedback I’ve been receiving. This is still a new venture and has been taking up pretty much all of my time. I’d love the company to grow and grow.

“The new National Curriculum is leaning a great deal towards using drama to enhance children’s education and Creative Literacy Stars could be the perfect catalyst for their learning.”
