Drivers could be fined £70 if they park outside a Rugby primary school.

Eastlands Primary School is the first in Warwickshire to implement the School Streets scheme, which is now up and running.

It will see vehicles, other than those belonging to residents, banned from Lansdowne Place during the school's start and finish times.

Headteacher Suki Edwards said it followed an increase in ‘near misses’.

She said: “I am so pleased that Eastlands has been chosen for this project. Over the years we have worked hard with our community to raise awareness of considerate & safe parking, reducing pollution around school gates and encouraging healthy lifestyles by walking, scooting or cycling to school.

“I am sure this project will support our hard work and lead to a further change in the behaviour of drivers and by doing so, make the journey to school even safer and healthier each morning.”
