Bendigo Mitchell of Farmer Ward Road has seen business double in size in the last few years and is still recruiting for local jobs for local people.

Managing director Duncan Nealon said the company, originally founded in 1978, was run by his father, Brian Nealon.

He said: “In November 2010 my dad very unexpectedly died after a heartattack. I took over from my dad as MD – literally had to pick up his to-do-list that had been written the day before.

“As you can appreciate, it was a worrying time for us, and some did see it as an opportunity to attack our customer base.

“We worked hard though to continue the values my dad set into the business and since then our business has more than doubled in size. And we are still recruiting for local jobs for local people.

“We find that businesses come to us due to a pretty straight-forward approach – excellent service, a fair price, and a transparent way of working.

“Despite the changes to technology, we find that an old-school approach to business still works.

“I have just been co-opted onto the board of directors of the Fork Lift Truck Association, where my dad was previously president. I’m the youngest on the board by quite some distance.”
