Scheme gives firms an internet boost

A scheme to help businesses with their internet costs has been extended into Warwickshire.

The Government has committed £150 million to the SuperConnected Cities programme to help businesses upgrade their internet connections and become more efficient and productive.

When the scheme was introduced, the original intention was to just offer the vouchers to business from certain cities, of which Coventry was one of them. However at the start of this year, Coventry City Council announced it intended to extend the scheme to businesses in Warwickshire.

Businesses with eligible postcodes can apply for free grant funding of up to £3,000 towards their internet costs. There is no matched funding required and the council will also provide businesses with a list of preferred suppliers who will help you apply for the funding.

René Wheeler from HBT Communications, one of the SuperConnected suppliers, said: “There are such huge benefits for businesses to upgrade their internet connection and this scheme is a great boost to help smaller businesses improve how they operate. A faster and more efficient connection not only speeds up day to day tasks, it also provides the opportunity to switch to cloud computing and streamline communication channels as your business phone can also be incorporated within the package.”

Rashid Bhayat, from the Positive Youth Foundation in Coventry, said: “I would definitely recommend the voucher scheme. It is an excellent initiative that has allowed us to improve efficiencies.”
