- A pedestrian one-way system is being introduced near to Sainsburys due to the narrow footpath in this location.

Details of the measures are available at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/covid19roadlayouts and feedback on the scheme can also be given.

An initial plan to close Warwick Road to through traffic was not taken forward because it did not secure universal support.

WCC said the measures will be kept under close review to ensure they remain suitable and appropriate to local needs and conditions. Changes may be made in response to feedback, operational issues or updated Government guidance.

Cllr Jeff Clarke, Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for transport and planning, said: “We have been working with our key partners to bring forward these plans to create an improved environment and support social distancing in the centre of Kenilworth as part of our response to the public health crises created by COVID-19 and to help businesses reopen and welcome customers back to their premises.

"I hope these measures will give the public confidence that they can safely return to use and enjoy the town centre and give our businesses and communities a much-needed boost.”

Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for business, Cllr Richard Hales, said: “The past three months have been tough for our retailers, particularly those who have been forced to close completely.

The council is now doing everything it can to support our local economy as our shops and town centre businesses start to reopen.

"We hope that the temporary measures put in place will allow this to continue and give those re-visiting Kenilworth the outside space they need to enjoy a safe environment.”

The Leader of Kenilworth Town Council, Cllr John Dearing said: “’We’ve already seen people returning to the town centre for shopping and business.

"Now as pubs, cafes, restaurants and hair salons begin to reopen, we very much hope these temporary measures will afford an extra level of safety which will encourage even more visitors.”
